Best Golf Irons

Maybe you've been golfing with rented clubs for awhile and are ready to invest in your own set. A very important part of any club set are the irons. They are used for shots that are medium to long in distance. Most golfers have quite a few irons in their club set as this type of club is used more frequently than woods or putters. Wood clubs are made for shots that are very far away and putters are used for the last few feet of the green. Iron clubs fall in between these two extremes and are crucial to the middle of your game. Choosing the best golf irons for your needs is sometimes a daunting process, but can be made easier with some basic knowledge.
There are different types of irons you should know about when shopping for these clubs. Cast irons are a popular type of iron that feature the majority of the weight on the outside of the head. This type of club is also called a perimeter weighted iron. These irons are perfect for beginning golfers and those with high handicaps. They don't offer as much control as the next type of iron we will discuss but they are easier for new golfers to use.
The second type of iron is called a forged iron. These clubs do not have the weight on the back of the head like cast iron clubs do. The weight is higher in the club face which allows the golfer with greater control. However, they are not as easy as cast irons for beginners to use. Forged irons are recommended for expert golfers seeking the most control over the trajectory of their shot. Most golfers are going to be better off with a cast iron club unless they are very skilled at the game.
Another thing you'll need to consider when deciding what are the best golf irons for you is the club shaft. Shaft flex is available in ladies, seniors, regular, stiff and extra stiff. A basic rule of thumb is the harder you hit the ball, the stiffer your level of shaft flex should be. Graphite shafts are recommended for golfers looking for speed, while steel shafts are good for most all golfers. You can also find shafts made from composite materials that provide both strength and speed. Choosing golf irons is a process where many factors should be considered. If you need assistance, consult with your local pro shop. The experts there should be able to help you select the right irons for your specific needs.
