Golf Club Fitting Guide
|
Before you buy new clubs, it helps to read a golf club fitting guide such as this one. Experienced golfers may know the fitting process up one side and down the other but new golfers may not. There are quite a few different ways to fit clubs but all of them use the same basic measurements and calculations. In order to have your golf clubs custom fit to your specifications, you will need to provide your gender, your age, your height, how far it is from your wrist to the floor, your handicap or level of skill, the speed at which you swing a club and which club you choose when at a marker of 150 yards.
You may wonder why gender makes a difference. Your gender determines which fitting scale will be used for you. There are different standards for males and females when it comes to fitting golf clubs. Your age is another classification as some of the specifications of a club may be especially measured for senior citizens. One area of fitting a club where your age comes into consideration is the shaft flex, which we will discuss momentarily.
How tall you are and how many inches there are from your wrist to the ground are both considered when determining the proper length club. For example, someone who is tall with long arms may require a shorter club than someone who is shorter with average length arms. Standard length clubs make up 80 percent of all clubs that are fit. Another aspect of fitting a club is the grip size. A properly adjusted grip size can improve your game and help you adjust problems like ball slicing.
Shaft flex is another important part of any golf club fitting. Shaft flex refers to the stiffness of a club. Flex comes in many variations including regular, stiff, extra stiff, ladies and senior. The harder you hit the ball, the stiffer the shaft should be. Your handicap, age and swing speed will all be considered when determining the proper shaft flex. As you can see from our basic golf club fitting guide, this process is quite extensive. This is one reason custom fit golf clubs are so costly. Clubs that have been fit to your exact specifications may help you improve your skills and get a better score.
